The Bangladesh National Museum was established originally on March 20, 1913 with the name of the Dhaka Museum and it was inaugurated formally on August 7, 1913 and then it got its current name on November 17, 1983. It’s situated in Shahbagh, Dhaka. It’s a well organized as well as displayed museum with chronological departments, such as ethnography for decorative art and department of history for the classical art, department of natural history, department of world civilization and department of contemporary. There is a rich conservation laboratory at the museum.
There are a large number of photographs of Bangladeshi tradition, history and different cultures that are accommodated in the museum. It preserves all period’s symbols of Bangladesh passed, from the prehistoric time to the current days. It has been made a bridge to the new generation and ancient time to know them by means of different kinds of elements of Bangladeshi history and culture.
Short Description of Different Floors
There are 3 floors in the Bangladesh National Museum and displaying various types of maps, large statues, the natural beauties of Bangladesh, historic relics of old Bengal, showcases of Bangladesh Liberation War, Language Movement, pictures and portraits of international politicians, scientists, artists and 4 international galleries of Korean, Chinese, Iranian and Swiss.
Ground Floor is the Main Floor
There are some old guns in the wall of the ground floor’s entrance where tickets are collected or gathering area of the museum. The floor is consisted of 22 rooms and each room contains different types of elements, such as 1st room
Exhibits a large map of Bangladesh indicating all 64 districts of it, 2nd room contains an ongoing work of a big statue of the national beast of the Bangladesh royal Bengal tiger. The 3rd-10th room consists of the natural beauties of Bangladesh and 10th to 22nd room is arranged with the historic residue of the old Bengal till to 1900.
2nd & 3rd Floor
2nd floor of the museum contains the famous pictures of renowned personals, images of the Liberation War of Bangladesh and the Language Movement of Bangladesh in 1952. And, Last floor, 3rd floor is full of images of international political personnel, scientists, artists, famous photographs and 4 international galleries of Korean, Chinese, Iranian and Swiss.

Summer (April to September): Saturday to Wednesday: 10.30 AM to 17.30 PM and Friday: 15.00 PM to 20.00 PM
Winter (October to March): Saturday to Wednesday: 10.00 AM - 16.30 PM Friday: 15.00 PM - 20.00 PM
Ramadan: Saturday to Wednesday: 09.30 AM to 15.00 PM.
Entry Fees: For Bangladeshi and SAARC countries' citizens: BDT 20 and other nationals: BDT 100
Guide Service: Foreigners can take help from a guide in the museum. There are total 7 guides to help the visitors.
