History of the Joy Kali Temple

The temple of Joy Kali is older, more than 400 years. It was established in 1001 of the Bengali calendar year during the Mughal period in the Bengal. There was a Dewan of the Nawabs named Nabh Narayan Ghosh and Tulsi Narayan Ghosh who established this Joy Kali temple under the inspection of the Saint of Bancharam. During this time, there were established 21 statues of Kali, Shib, Bandurga, three Shalgram Chakra, Lakshminarayan etc. There are some nice monuments of guesthouses, the temple of Shiv, Nabratna, Pancharatna that were made in the JoyKali Temple. The nearest market, has named after the temple, Nawabpur Joy Kali Bazaar. And the market is located in the Kaligonj haat that’s dedicated to the Goddess Kali.

Present condition of the Joy Kali Temple

Bancharam was the first caretaker of the Joy Kali Temple. The third caretaker, Panachend, suffered a decline and the responsibility of the Devi was handed over to Bhraman Tanyar. The landlords of that period had seized some of the temple’s land. From that time it was starting to be ruined without maintenance and lack of money. It was fully damaged at the time of strike in 1990. The temple was remade later on by the followers of the Goddess Kali. At the present time, the size of the temple is comparatively smaller than the time it was established.

The Attraction and Architectural significance of the Temple

Many interested visitors go to watch the temple daily. There are two temples inside of the boundary. One temple is of the Kali Devi and other one is of Shiv, which contains a dome. The dome of the temple is made of plaster and observable from outside of the temple. The local peoples of the area refer the dome as the Temple of the Joy Kali. Tiles are used to beautify the temple at its all around of the wall. The floor of the temple is made of mosaic. There are many pictures of Hindu Goddess and Gods printed on the walls of the temple. There is a welcome logo that’s made of the stainless steel writing ‘Om’, the divine symbol of the Hindu religion. In front of the statue of Kali Devi, there is a hanging bell in upside and it ring by the people after entering and before leaving the temple.
