Kamalapur Railway Station is a beautifully designed and the largest railway station of Bangladesh Railway (BR). Short History of the Kamalapur Railway Station

It was established in 1960 and started working from 1969. There was a single railway station in the Bengal in Fulbaria. After partition of the Bengal, Dhaka got huge importance and it was selected to extend up to Kamalapur. At the early of 1960 the Kamalapur railway station was constructed which was an important establishment in former East Pakistan (present Bangladesh) under the architectural firm named “Berger Engineers” in partnership with an American engineering firm called “Luis Berger Inc”. Finally, it was completed with well-designed by the famous American architect, Robert Boughey.

The railway station shows the reflections of the style of the architect. It’s an architectural wonder with a shell structure of lotus-shaped and it covered the functional building akin to an umbrella. The station has 21 ticket counters to collect local tickets from 20 counters and one counter for international ticketing. Its eight platforms and two restaurants near the ticket counters.

The platforms are full of people and there are always so many guards and police to control the station area.
